Theme Vision for 2021: The Year of the Lord’s Overcoming Strength

Wait | Renew | Overcome

But those who wait on the Lord, Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 NKJV
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. 40:31 KJV

Twenty stands for redemption. Thus 2020 has been the “Year of the Lords Redemptive Establishment”. Twenty one in the Hebrew numbering system has Kaph value 20 and Aleph value one. Together they signify the giving of strength as well as the strength of God’s grace to cover sin during our time of spiritual growth.

According to Dr. Stephen E. Jones in the Biblical meaning of numbers , It can speak of the end of distress, thus speaking of the blessing that comes at the end . We see in the life of Jacob that he went through two 21 years of distress. He was separated from his family for 21 years when he ran away from Esau. He was also separated for 21 years from Joseph. We see that Joseph was 18 years when he was sold by his brothers to Egypt. Joseph was 39 years old when he revealed to Jacob that he was alive. 39-18 = 21.

During those times of separation, Jacob received strength from the Lord. In the first separation his name was changed from Jacob to Israel. The angel said of him, “And he said, ‘Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.’” [Gen 32:28 NKJV]

This was a turning point for Jacob. The Lord had given him strength in a time of great challenges and distress. Jacob was so touched by this encounter that he said, “So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: ‘For I have seen God face to face, and my life has been preserved.’” [Gen 32:30 NKJV]. The second part of his 21 year separation from Joseph his son, Jacob could not believe the news. But God appeared to Him and encouraged him to go to Egypt. He gave him a promise that it would be well for him [Gen 46:1-4].

It had been foretold of how Covid 19 would ravage Africa, “people falling as flies on the streets”
Our medical facilities inadequate, our doctor to patient ratio low, our economy laden in debt, graft being the order of day, as saints prayed Jehovah relented, on account of His tender mercies .We felt the pain of loss yet not in the magnitude foretold, we have surely seen the deliverance of the Lord .

What is the Lord saying to MBC, though we have had challenges in 2020, the pandemic, impact of the rate caps were heavily felt, some people lost jobs and some businesses closed , some lost loved ones. The entire world has been impacted , yet the Lord has watched over and protected us. He has preserved us , He will give us the Overcoming Strength founded on Christ the Rock and God the Holy Spirit will lead us, when we WAIT on Him, He will RENEW us an give us OVERCOMING STRENGTH.

Psalm 124 is our testimony of 2020.

Relate/read it as “When men rose up against us,” to “When pandemic rose up against us”,
