Upcoming Events

2020 Theme:The Year of the Lords Redemptive Establishment

Speaker:Deacon Justin Muna

Sunday 5th July 2020.

– What’s an altar?
– Who do you worship?
– Do you have time set aside to worship?
Hebrews 8: 1-6
Key message of these verses is: We have a High Priest – Jesus Christ the Son of God
Hebrews 9: 1-10 outlines the new order of worship.
In Old Testament, sacrifices at altars involved live offering of animals & blood. This became more like ceremonies/rituals. This still exhibited incompleteness to true worship.
Many Old Testament people set up altars:
1. Whenever God appeared to them (Abraham, Isaac, etc)
2. Whenever God directed them (Abraham offering Isaac as a sacrifice)
3. At the places where they settled (Genesis 33- Jacob)
In the Bible we learn about Moses terbanacles. God established order of service. Moses is tasked to put up an altar of burnt offering. Incense were offered. At points of Altars, God spoke to the people.
Temples Altars
In temples during time of Solomon, there were Altars. Incense were burnt daily
Key elements about altars:
1. The altars point to Christ and atonement of sins.
In New Testament, the incense were replaced by Christ who became the sacrifice for atonement of sins
2. Christ is the mediator – no need of a priest (Hebrews 9: 12)
Christ gives us access to holy place.
3. Constant presence of worship at the place of incense
Hebrews 13
We are called to continually be worshippers.
How can we restore true worship in family?
Acts 17: 24-31
– We have a High Priest who has gone before us.
– Direct communion with God – not limited to the church building
– Worship and prayer is what makes an altar.
– Family altar is spiritual in nature. The family invites God to speak.
– Should be continuous
– No animal or physical sacrifices needed except offering our bodies as living sacrifices (Romans 12: 1)
There is a need to set up family altars to meet in the name of Jesus Christ. Allow God to move and minister to the family.
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10: 24-25 NKJV).
Do not put up shrines to symbolize family altar.
Why set up family altar?
1. Family altar provides opportunity for family spiritual nourishment, strength and direction.
God moves and transforms our minds. Cornelius family was transformed (Acts 10)
2. It enhances love and unity in family
Makes our relationships better as a family.
3. Opportunity to train and pass over truths especially to the children
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6 NKJV).
Prophesy over your children. Teach them about truths, virtues.
As Joshua swore…. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15 NKJV)
4. Family altars give an opportunity for dismantling false/ evil set ups
Transformation happens. Deliverance from traditions, false believed
Break the york, burdens…. Healing of broken families, restoration of lost children, etc
Whenever people worshipped, God’s glory came down.
God’s presence brings in a new order, the worship of a true God
Do not make physical structures or places be your Altars. Let your altar be spiritual – your heart.
God bless you.
