Excellent Grace

Scripture: Luke 15:11-32

11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons.12And the younger of them said tohisfather, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that fallsto me.’ So he divided to themhislivelihood.13And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.14But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. Luke 15:11-14 NKJV

25“Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.Luke 15:25 NKJV

28“But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.

29So he answered and said tohisfather, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.Luke 15:29 NKJV

The word ‘grace‘ literallymeans‘favour’, to bend or stoop in kindness to another as a superior to an inferior, ‘unmerited favour’ .

The opposite of Grace is Legalism(or nomism), it is the act of putting the Law of Moses above the gospel by establishing requirements for salvation beyond faith (trust) in Jesus Christ .

The Prodigal son received Grace , the older son was legalistic

8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves;it isthe gift of God,9not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV
