Better Together

The Bible encourages that – together we can do better.
‘Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work; if one falls down, his friend can help him up’ ( Ecclesiastes 4: 9, 10).
We see that the early apostolic church needed to stay together. The believers then, were under hostile environment particularly from zealous Jews. In response the believers devoted themselves to (a) Teaching, (b) fellowship, (c) fellowship and (d) prayer. The benefits were: Everyone was filled with awe, Many wonders and miracles were witnessed, all needs were met, believers were praising God, they were enjoying favor of all people and the Lord saved many who were added to their number (Acts 2:42-47)
This shows that it is better when believers work together. God’s family works best when its members work together. A healthy Christian community attracts people to Christ.
David declared, ‘How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity’ (Psalm 133). Why do people disagree and cause disunity, yet together they make a positive example to the world. Further, togetherness/oneness is liked to anointing oil for service. David concluded by observing that because of that, God bestows blessings even life forever more.
Paul encouraged believers not to give up meeting together as so are in that habit (Hebrew 10:25). The purpose was to encourage and strengthen one another. Christians face many hostile challenges in this world and we need to lift each other’s hands.
In 1 Corinthians 12:12, Paul compares the body of Christ with human body. And that each organ has a specific function necessary to the body. Therefore, we should not be proud of our abilities nor neglect them. Are you functioning in or out of the body?
In Genesis 11, people said,’ … come let’s build ourselves a city’. The God observed, ‘as one people, speaking same language, nothing they plan to do will be impossible to them. Imagine the power of working together! Their purpose and motives were not right, so God confused their language.
Moreover, if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done by our Father in heaven (Matthew 18: 19).
It’s our responsibility to deliberately contribute to togetherness. One way to keep our togetherness is to love each other as demanded by Christ (John 17). Some Christians shy away from fellowships because of differences, disappointment or hurts. But Jesus directed that we forgive your brother, be reconciled as he did himself.
